 | | | | Recommended Tubing Diameter for Pumps to Waterfalls: 0.5" diameter for flows up to 120 gallons per hour (gph) 0.75" diameter for flows up to 350 gph 1" diameter for flows up to 1000 gph 1.25" for flows up to 1500 gph 1.5" for flows up to 3000 gph
High pressure pumps can squeeze more water through a smaller diameter pond pipe than a low pressure pond pump can. Likewise, under gravitational flow, a given pond pipe diameter will carry more water from a bottom drain (gravity system) than will the same size pond pipe on the return side of a pumped system. This is because of the head (weight) of water.
With long runs of pond pipe work / many bends / many fittings move up to the next size.
Generally, the size of the pond hosing used from the pond pump should be the next size up from the diameter of the pond pump outlet. The size difference will necessitate the use of an adapter, which should be affixed with stainless steel clamps.
The larger the pond hose diameter, the more gentle the flow. You will find that increasing the pond hose size where the flow is too strong will help reduce the flow.
flow adjusters can also be used to make minor adjustments to water flow. The flow adjusters must be attached to the discharge hose of the pond pump to prevent stressing the pump. Alternatively, a tee connector can be used. The addition diverts a portion of the flow to another water feature such as a pond fountain.
